Pastoral Landscape by Émile Jacques

Sale price$1,350.00

An atmospheric pastoral landscape by Belgian painter Émile Jacques (1874–1937), depicting horses grazing beneath a dense canopy of trees. Rendered in a beautifully subdued, earthy palette, the work captures the quiet mood and changing light of the countryside with a distinctly Barbizon-influenced sensibility.

Jacques was a Belgian painter known particularly for landscapes, figures, and portraits. He studied in Antwerp, later taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mechelen, and became associated with the Third School of Tervuren, whose artists were drawn to plein-air landscape painting and the wooded countryside surrounding Brussels. He later emigrated to the United States and taught at the University of Notre Dame.

Presented in an exceptional, heavily ornamented gilt frame with scrolling foliate, floral, and shell decoration. The rich aged gilding and grand scale of the frame beautifully complement the painting's moody pastoral scene.
