Napoleon III Cut Crystal Casket, Attributed to Baccarat, c. 1870

An exquisite French cut crystal and gilt-bronze casket, attributed to Baccarat and dating to circa 1870. The substantial crystal is intricately hand-cut with alternating large-point/diamond and elongated “bamboo” cuts, geometric diamond cuts finished with a starburst-cut base. Ornate gilt-bronze mounts include drop-ring handles, ball feet, and a decorative foliate lock escutcheon, all retaining a beautifully aged patina.

A striking example of Napoleon III-era French luxury craftsmanship, equally beautiful as a jewelry casket or decorative objet.
