19th-Century Italian Giltwood Mirrored Wall Sconce
A beautifully timeworn 19th-century Italian carved giltwood wall sconce, richly detailed with scrolling acanthus, shellwork and beaded ornament surrounding a petite oval beveled mirror. Twin candle arms flank the mirror, creating an elegant old-world silhouette. The mirror is original with extensive mercury loss and fogginess showing through to reveal a dark fuzzy reflection that shows its age and patina.
Hand-carved wood construction with wonderfully aged gilding, surface wear and patina developed over generations. Originally designed for candles and later electrified.
