19th C. Bone Miniature Rococo Interior Scene Painting
This is a hand-painted miniature genre scene on bone, dating to the early 19th century. It depicts a charming Rococo-style interior scene of flirtation and courtship—very much in the spirit of French aristocratic life before the Revolution. The piece is signed ‘Jane,’ likely a female miniaturist, which adds to its appeal as these artists were highly skilled but often under-recognized.
What makes it especially attractive is the later 19th-century French gilt frame in the Louis XVI revival style from Napoleon III period with its ornate ribbon crest and original red silk surround. No detail is spared including its' embroidered floral backing. This is a layered historical art piece that is heirloom quality.
