1895 Fruit Still-life painting by German artist Franz Molitor

A beautifully rendered late 19th-century German still life by Franz Molitor (1857–1929), depicting peaches and fruit arranged against a rich, dark ground. Painted with wonderfully textured brushwork and a warm, moody palette characteristic of traditional Düsseldorf School still-life painting.

Molitor studied at the Düsseldorf Academy and was known for portraits, genre scenes, religious works and still lifes. The painting is signed lower right “Franz Molitor, Ddf. '95”, referring to Düsseldorf; a documented Molitor still life bears the comparable signature “Frz Molitor Ddrf.”
