1822 Pocket Sized Waverly Novels | Walter Scott Illustrated Book Set

Sale price$450.00

A beautifully decorative six-volume collection of The Works of Walter Scott, printed in Zwickau, Germany for Brothers Schumann, circa 1822–1824. Featuring richly patinated period bindings with gilt-tooled spines, contrasting title labels, striking turquoise page edges, and engraved frontispieces.

This collection includes three of his notable works: Guy Mannering (1815), a Scottish tale of inheritance, mystery and identity; The Heart of Mid-Lothian (1818), one of Scott’s most acclaimed novels, inspired partly by the true story of a woman who journeyed to seek a royal pardon for her sister; and St. Ronan’s Well (1823/24), Scott’s unusual venture into contemporary society, centered around the fashionable world and intrigues of a Scottish spa town.

Nearly 200 years old, this wonderfully preserved literary set brings exceptional history and old-world character to a library, bookshelf, or collected interior.
